Deepti started her medical career as a physician in rural and urban India, gaining a first-hand understanding of women's and children's issues in the community. In her practice, she has treated real victims of abuse, rape, torture, bride burning and incest and dealt with cases of attempted female foeticide and infanticide.
Inspired by these experiences, Deepti is a passionate activist for social change. Alongside her 20 year career in senior leadership roles in healthcare organizations and corporates, she has worked in partnership with charitable organisations and the Indian government as an active contributor to the education, training and empowerment of women and other vulnerable sections of Indian society.
In particular, she has been instrumental in driving a change of attitude towards sex education, gender issues and the HIV epidemic. She has conducted workshops for teachers, parents and children to prevent Child Sexual Abuse in leading schools in Bangalore, Delhi and Gurgaon.
Deepti moved with her family to the UK three years ago but, like many Indian women across the globe, has been deeply disturbed by the reports of rising sexual violence in India. Having herself devoted many years to raising awareness of women’s issues, she was inspired by Debi Steven’s vision to join Action Breaks Silence as a founder Trustee. In June 2016, she became a Special Advisor, to support our work in protecting at-risk women and children in India and across the world.
